Sound & music

Added by SiggyPop over 2 years ago

Hi all! ;>)

Here are my 1st ideas: (About music, themes, loops, a hymn or anthem for the game etc.)

The various events are supported by different acoustic backgrounds. So I try to compose the right sound and music for each scene.

When the game starts, a frame/ screen appears with the name of the game – and you hear
a melody played by trumpets &/or trombones or horns.

Then a video follows which shows the map, like you’ll fly over it, accompanied by a bleak, gloomy sound and melody which reflects the mood of the game…
Perhaps we could install a 2nd clip which reflects the action of the game in short form.

After this the start/home screen appears, where you can choose “new game” or “continue” – supported by the game theme (anthem).

… Inspired by the Game SHENMUE (I’m a big fan!) I’d like to compose a theme for each character in the game.

OK, these are my 1st ideas on it – let’s create something cool! ;>)

Siggy!

From time to time I'm gonna post some stuff here - just ideas & examples. 1st I'm analyzing and composing - phase I - then, when all is clear, I start recording - phase II a.s.o. ... if u got any ideas or wishes, what u want to have as a background, just tell me - we can work it out. ;>)
I'm glad, to work on this project with u! Let'z have fun (slang :P )
I play all kind(s) of music - except Rap and other brainless stuff... :P & I'm also the leader of the f-group
"Rock, Blues Rock & Hard Rock"! ;>) Join, if u like (but it's in german!)
/* & it's been a while, since I went to school, so, have merci, that my english is not as good as it was some decades ago ... :P ;) */

Hi all, :)

have made a rock rhythm - some backing tracks to which I improvise or jam with the guitar.
Thought, I can also provide them here. Here some demos - the rest goes to the dms. Have fun! :)
Usually, I've played it in G (G|D|A) For the game, I've made it in minor: Em|D|A - interesting...

Sigurd! ;)

Hi all, :)

just posted in my group ROCK, BLUES ROCK & HARD ROCK, that our RPG finally has a name and we are still looking for help in the field of graphics and design. Maybe we now have a better chance of finding more employees. ;)

// currently the 3rd posting from above - changes every day...

Hi all :)

hope, u're doin' fine! ;>)

Heard a bird here yesterday, it whistled its little song in octaves - that gave me an idea and I developed a cool riff out of it. ;) More on that shortly.

I just installed a text game maker for my own project - it might also be useful for you:

https://libraries.io/pypi/text-game-maker

  • As long as you don't have a graphic designer ...

// I know that would be a different topic, of course, but so as not to open up a new one ...

I had a different text game maker on my old computer, but forgot the name - something with q 5 or something ...
You could write a story, add different rooms, add sound to the whole thing and add pictures. Enough for a one-man team.
For example, yesterday I wrote a plot for a game - J. & M. - A detective story. ;) (J = Jack or John, a cool american guy; M. = Michelle, a sweet french girl. :D )
I don't know, if I will continue to pursue this - just for fun ... but if so, we would have the approach for a 2nd game ...

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 1 year ago

OK, wrote it down - with tux guitar - so that I don't forget. - With a little improvisation in C minor pentatonic at the end - could be worked out in the blues scheme ... ;)

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 1 year ago

A lil' bit later - I still fiddled around a bit ;) - so here's a 2nd riff:

Since Denerio once mentioned that he cannot listen to the midi files, I also upload the tux guitar file. You can simply install tux guitar from the package sources under linux. Then simply open the * .tg files and click on start - the arrow.
That's how I compose most of the pieces.

I noticed, that you can export the data for lilypond... never heared of it. Does anyone know, what that means? Looks like some c# code... ;)
Here the *.ly file for example:

Hi guys, :)

have again created a small piece - here the first takes:
// I upload the rest when I have time. - This piece - or the part - fits more to the summer, so not as usual in minor ...
// as the name suggests...

Your bard,
Sigurd. ;>)

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 1 year ago

By the way, the name "SummerFeel" is a little musician joke:

Usually you announce a piece among musicians, how to play it - e.g. in triplet feel, eighth- or sixteenth feel - but this one's in the "Summer Feel", lol. :D :P

  • Anyway - I hope you like it!

Cya! ;>)

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 1 year ago

OK - took the time - loaded all up into the dms - music backgrounds - enjoy! ;)

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 1 year ago

... Just listened to everything again briefly - in the middle of the night - :P I think I'm going to make a song out of the piano ballad ... ;)

-- this one:

// the 'n' is broken on my tasta - recorded it on my old pc, lol

RE: Sound & music - Added by quintus about 1 year ago

I like the Piano ballad, it's good work.

I've also listened to some of the other numerous creations you uploaded (including those in the DMS), and your productivity is startling. I have been continuing some writing on the v2 story, but got trumped by RL issues over the last three weeks and will still face more of them over the next week (correcting exams, in this case). At some point we are going to lose track of all your valuable creations simply due to the mass of them. I have not yet a concept in mind of to manage that, though. I need to think harder. For the moment, I need to complete the v2 story draft, which will yield quite a bit more content to base songs on, but you see, after a dire day of work and then some science thinking for my PhD thesis, the creativity for story writing is diminished. I hope I will get around to it when I enter into vacations later this month.

I would suggest to you to join our IRC channel #ilmendur every once in a while as you will then have opportunity for real-time chat with refi64, which I think will benefit the project and maybe reduce this thread's verbosity. Maybe you two can come up with a way to organise all the music assets in a managable mannor; in any case it would be good to agree on style questions. I suppose real-time chat is better for your desire for communication, Siggy :-). Currently, you are generating so many posts that they stock up in my mail inbox and make me feel bad for not looking at them immediately. But I simply only have a day or two every three weeks or so and the Ilmendur project has quite some more aspects to it than only this thread. When I meet Denerio later this month in person, I hope we can sort out some of the management issues together. Just in case you are interested in a face-to-face meeting with us two, please give me a signal and I will think if I can arrange something or if it does not fit the time table.

From quintus

Currently, you are generating so many posts that they stock up in my mail inbox and make me feel bad for not looking at them immediately.

I do love getting all these discussions from SiggyPop and others to my email. Please all continue similarly in the future.

I am also at many other chats, but I'm most available by email. I usually all sound notifications disabled and phone set to silent, I most often just read my email.

My day starts by reading about 40 emails in my email INBOX etc, mostly about Wekan. There is so little non-Wekan email, it's just all welcome, to keep up-to-date. Thanks all!

For Wekan, I prefer discussing in issues, and many messages to make very much progress fast, so a lot of email is great for me.

Hello my friends! :)

I've just been working intensively on a theme or a little hymn. After brooding for a while, an idea also occurred to me. It should be a positive melody - with ascending tones, which in my opinion best fits a victorious anthem.

I will call it “SwordTheme” to give the child a name. You could also call it “the hymn of the sword”, or “Hymn/ anthem for Ilmendur” … or what do you think? So far it's only in my head and my fingers - should put it on paper, but it's already late ... But I will probably have to pull myself up, because tomorrow morning everything may be irretrievably forgotten …

Your bard,
Sigurd. ;)

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 1 year ago

Pooh! : P I splashed some cold water on the face and quickly wrote down the basic idea ... - Not yet perfect, but as a reminder. I will change a tone in the 2nd round ...;)

Good night & sweet dreams! ;>)

// I think that arranged for an orchestra will be fine ... More on that in the near future ... chhhrrrrr : :D :P hehehe.

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 1 year ago

OK, now it's better. Just one note can change the whole thing! ;)
I'll arrange that soon... cyaaaa! :)

// Of course there would be 1000 options for a theme - that's one of them ... ;)

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 1 year ago

Another idea for a theme/ an anthem: "dreams of ilmendur" ... ;)
// or the title of a side quest ...

Hehe :D the idea for a new theme - Ilmendur set to music:
// the idea is to assign a tone to each syllable

// When you open the pdf, you'll see, that the "n" was cut in the middle - looks like an r - not enough space...

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 1 year ago

Hehehe :D

A new funny idea: If I wrote a song about it, it could sound like this, lol: :D

Ilmendur, oh Ilmendur ...

Perhaps the bards would have sung it that way back then!

Maybe I'll even work that out - sounds funny. :D

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 1 year ago

OK, so that it doesn't sound so monotonous - here a little spiced up: ;)
& combined with the previous idea.
We were creative again, today. & you were once able to witness the creative process. Hope you liked it. ;)
Now we just have to arrange the whole thing ...

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 1 year ago

Good mornin' everybody! :)

  • Another idea:

(I can imagine in my mind's eye.)

At some point a bard appears in the game who tells the story of Ilmendur. I could write something for that.
If you can think of something to do with it - just bring it on!

Ilmendur

Em D
Ilmendur – this is the story of Ilmendur
Em D
Ilmendur – let me tell you about Ilmendur

That would be the so-called hook. The song can now be built around it.
I once played it with E minor and D - I think it's appropriate.

RE: Sound & music - Added by quintus about 1 year ago

These are very nice pieces! I already like the 'SwordTheme 2.mid'. It
has something dreamy about it. From the others you posted, 'Ilmendur
Solo Phrase 2.mid' is quite cool already. Keep in mind that a title
theme (this is appearently what you are aiming at) should be quite
long (at least 5 minutes I'd say) and unique; it will be the first
thing the player hears as it plays on the title screen. You should
have it tell a story; since you appearently want to focus on the
Ilmendur sword's story, give the prestory document another read as it
outlines what happened to the sword quite well already.

I intend to make use of the title theme in the game at multiple places
when story-relevant events occur. It would be nice if you provided the
theme in about three variants. The main one for the title screen, one
to be played when the Ilmendur sword is found and Freya has her vision
with Fengir, and one with a grave tone for the final battle with
the (yet nameless) creature from the space between the worlds.

As for the musical theming of the final scenes, please note that I
would like to have a vivid theme based on Hieronymus' character theme
for the battle with Hieronymus, which in turn should be an independent
theme from the title theme. Only the real final battle with the
nameless creature should be based on the title theme, and I would like
it to be an actually slower theme in order to underline the
significance of the event at hand. This latter theme with its more
slow approach should contrast with the fighting situation.

OK, quintus - I'll do my best! ;)

It's not like I can quickly shake an entire opera out of my sleeve, as they say - not even the world's best professionals can do that. Rather, you create small parts that you work on and put together like puzzle pieces ... But the pieces add up and soon you can go to put some together.
Now - in summer - I am often on the road, but when it gets colder again, then there is more time for it.
But it's good to know how you imagine it - that's helpful.

Gtg now - cya soon! And have a nice day - all of you!

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 1 year ago

Hiya! :)

Very short, lol :D

I'm washing dishes right now - that's where I always get the best ideas :D
A rhythmic background for Ilmendur could sound like this:

RhBkgrd:

Papapa – paparabada papapa - paparabada papapa - paparabada paaaaa. :)

I only have to set tones to it later when I have the time, but that would already set a song part.
But first I have to see whether this is also suitable, but I'll hold on to it.
Maybe good for trumpets etc ...

;) Cyaaa! lol
