Sound & music

Added by SiggyPop over 2 years ago

Hi all! ;>)

Here are my 1st ideas: (About music, themes, loops, a hymn or anthem for the game etc.)

The various events are supported by different acoustic backgrounds. So I try to compose the right sound and music for each scene.

When the game starts, a frame/ screen appears with the name of the game – and you hear
a melody played by trumpets &/or trombones or horns.

Then a video follows which shows the map, like you’ll fly over it, accompanied by a bleak, gloomy sound and melody which reflects the mood of the game…
Perhaps we could install a 2nd clip which reflects the action of the game in short form.

After this the start/home screen appears, where you can choose “new game” or “continue” – supported by the game theme (anthem).

… Inspired by the Game SHENMUE (I’m a big fan!) I’d like to compose a theme for each character in the game.

OK, these are my 1st ideas on it – let’s create something cool! ;>)

Siggy!

From time to time I'm gonna post some stuff here - just ideas & examples. 1st I'm analyzing and composing - phase I - then, when all is clear, I start recording - phase II a.s.o. ... if u got any ideas or wishes, what u want to have as a background, just tell me - we can work it out. ;>)
I'm glad, to work on this project with u! Let'z have fun (slang :P )
I play all kind(s) of music - except Rap and other brainless stuff... :P & I'm also the leader of the f-group
"Rock, Blues Rock & Hard Rock"! ;>) Join, if u like (but it's in german!)
/* & it's been a while, since I went to school, so, have merci, that my english is not as good as it was some decades ago ... :P ;) */

Hello everyone! :)

Finally some time and rest to make music. And here's a short post, so you can see I'm still working on the music and that there's more to come.
I once again browsed through an old classical book and played around with the natural minor scale.
Add some harmonies and a cool rhythm and we have a new part for our project.
I think the Dm6 chord is good to include here…
Here's the chord progression: Am - Dm6 - Am/E - E7 - Am.
I hope to find some time over the weekend to work this out further. Until then.

Hi all, :)

Just worked out a riff here with power chords. Power chords are two-tone chords consisting of a root and a fifth (Sometimes the octave is also added). Used primarily in rock and blues rock.
' As always as *.pdf & midi as an audio sample.

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop 3 months ago

OK, and here's another blues rock groove - just been tinkering with it for over an hour:
(Played like the cool old blues guitarists do: put your thumb on the low E string and improvise with the minor pentatonic or the blues scale using all the techniques like bendings etc.)
' I know these audio samples sound a bit weird - only serve to capture the ideas.
Then have a nice weekend!

Your bard,
Sigurd. ;>)

' PS: I should have written it ternary - but a blues player does that automatically anyway...
' PPS: For Ilmendur we can of course arrange this in a classic way...

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop 3 months ago

Speaking of blues scale: I searched a bit and found some phrases that I had worked out - we could also include them in places - here are just the notes for now:

' I hadn't put any sharpening signs here - was actually a personal study of the 2nd position.

For those interested:
How to remember the notes of the blues scale well:
A blue note is simply added to the pentatonic scale: (The so-called diminished quint or flatted fifth in English.)
In E minor, this is Bb (b flat).
The E minor pentatonic has the tones E G A B D, so the Em blues scale has E G A Bb B D.

Very easily! ;)
Have fun improvising!

The most famous example is this song - a riff with a pure Gm blues scale:

Hello, everyone! :)

I just had an idea: In many games, a short melody is played as a transition or break and the game logo or an illustration is shown. We could do something like that too! ;) I already have an idea: bap, bap tara-tara-paaaa ... (a a c a c a d = Am-pentatonic) hehe :D - just have to write it down and then import it. More on that shortly.

Here it is. I also have a longer version in mind - I still have to work it out...

I agree, it sounds useful. Maybe someone around here will come up with
an appropriate logo.

On the current state of affairs: It is now possible to configure the
player 1 joystick completely. What does not yet work is to transition
into the test scene after the configuration is completed.

Hello everyone, :) here I have developed the idea from yesterday:

' Just a little phrase is enough - if you jam something/ a little bit with it, you immediately have a new part.
Of course, this can also be continued - I already have an idea for the end... (fade out)
I'm still working on the melodies for the landscape backgrounds - I already have an idea... Maybe an arpeggio...

  • SP.

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop 3 months ago

Here's a little foretaste of the background melody of the landscapes:

If one imagines that one is walking through a beautiful landscape, a melody in a major key is of course suitable. Here e.g. in A major. Which of course we can change to minor or diminished depending on events. Of course we can change the melody a bit from area to area...

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop 3 months ago

Here is the same approach in A minor:

' So we already have a starting point that we can expand ...

Hiya! :)

Just combined a background melody with nature sounds - here are 2 test recordings. Now we're getting a little bit closer.
Of course some fine tuning and cut the whole thing as a loop... Maybe the natural sounds a little quieter? What do you think?
Then I have something to do over the weekend. Have a good time everyone!

Sigurd! ;>)

Hiya :) - thx & I'm sorry for replying so late! Extreme Stress!

News: I made some background recordings here and mixed them with nature sounds. These are demos for now, to see which styles work best for our landscape backgrounds. If you have time, you can listen to them and I will then elaborate and edit your favorites.
// These are first backgrounds from a keyboard-technical point of view.
Of course I can also arrange melodies that I have written so far and mix them with the sounds of nature.

OK, here are the first demos. Enjoy!

Your bard,
Sigurd! ;>)

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop 2 months ago

// I named them like a variable - N stands for nature and the rest for style.

Here are a few more:

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop 2 months ago

And here's the last one:

// Most are in A major - but there is also one in A minor if that suits you better.

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop 2 months ago

// I've tried to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, as tastes vary and also to cover all possible uses...

  • I would be really happy if the gig "Rock under the Isar Bridge" would work out! :D I hope to see you there!
    Yours, SP.

  • That reminds me of one of the first pieces I tried to play on the guitar: Enjoy! ;)

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 2 months ago

Hi all, :)

Here I have a rock background that I recorded last year mixed with nature sounds. Unfortunately, there was a stutter during the mix - you can only hear it very slightly, but it can be heard and it's annoying. Once again the dear technology ... Hear it on fade out.

// I'll record it again and switch off all background programs - this will probably put too much strain on the computer.

So here first as a demo. I was thinking of a background (which is written in E minor by the way) for a quest maybe - you have a new task in the game that is a bit frustrating etc. I think that would be ideal for that. Of course you can still edit and change it...

OK, enjoy it!

Your bard,
Sigurd. ;>)

// I left the natural sounds very discreetly in the background.

PS: A positive thinker would say: Only the breakdowns turn a recording into an experience... ha-ha! :P - The laugh should be meant sarcastically!

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 2 months ago

  • Idea: You could take this for a quest with a time limit: you have time to do the quest until the song is over - when the sounds of nature get louder at the end, the time runs out! ;)

// You often see this in games - a time limit is displayed (a clock with a countdown) and a corresponding melody etc.

Oh yes, if you would like to express any wishes - go ahead! ;)

RE: Sound & music - Added by SiggyPop about 2 months ago

OK - I couldn't let that stand in the room - here it is again:

//So don't whine - just do it again! :P :D

2nd take: ;)

// In music studios you usually take the 2nd recording!

--- Pheeew - made it - finally ...

It used to be a crack on the disk - today it's a graphics card jerking!

OK, no jump in the record this time! ;)

Cya soon! :)

Hiya, :)

I've just mixed a classical piece I wrote recently with natural sounds - here's the result:

Enjoy! ;>)

Your bard,
Sigurd!

// It could perhaps be played a little "tick" faster... I'll note that - first of all brainstorming.

// Listening to this you must feel like a conductor... (to set the tempo, dynamics and strength)
(I got this streak from my father - he was an organ builder.)

// It takes a while for some tracks to kick off - I'm just experimenting a bit - all just demos.
/* I also took stock for myself: I am now in phase II - i.e. mixing all the tracks etc. and combing through and arranging the ideas... */

// It's a good thing that I've documented all the sheet music etc. here - all from my pen! - in case someone should ask us.
(Because when I listen to something I've written - wow - hehehe :D ok that's from me lol. Sometimes I can't believe it!) ;>)
