Description

Base data

  • Name: Phantom
  • Environment: Dark places
  • Weakness: Light

Appearance

Phantom is transparent, but the air around it vibrates and is darker than the surroundings. It has two glowing eyes into which the heroes should never look straightly (see below).

Behaviour

This enemy is immune to anything but light. If it senses light nearby, it flees. However, unless hit by a strong light, it is invincible.

Facing Phantom's eyes directly will paralyse a protagonist whilst Phantom approaches its victim. The only possibility to escape is to cut the direct line of sight, which can only be done by the other protagonist (or may happen by chance if something falls down, another enemy destroys the line of sight, etc.). Easiest way to escape is to push the paralysed protaginst out of the line of sight.

If Phantom reaches its victim, it possesses it and makes it attack the other protagonist. To overcome this condition, the possessed protagonist needs to be hit several times until (s)he loses 1/2 of the energy it had before being possessed. Phantom than releases its victim and rematerialises a while later again in a far corner of the room. If both protagonists get possessd each by a Phantom, they will fight against each other automatically until one Phantom vanishes.

Phantom moves around only slowly and does not turn around unexpectedly (otherwise it would be too hard to avoid getting paralysed).

How to defeat

Exposing Phantom to strong light kills it immediately. Example strategies against it include igniting a strong fire, opening a hole in the ceiling so sunlight can come in, uncovering a strong lamp, or deflecting light from a distant source using a mirror.

Miscellaneous

Phantom sometimes paralyses, attacks, and possesses other enemies in the mannor described above. Tricking Phantom into possessing an enemy can cause quite a lot of chaos if there are lots of enemies as the possessed enemy will attack its allies.
