The *Emblem of the Mages* is the official "logo" / symbol used by the mages to identify themselves. It takes the form of a rounded cross with a circle in its centre, where the circle itself is broken by a centred star with eight corners. The star in the graphic's centre is not white, it is transparent, i.e. background is visible through it.

## Meaning and origin
8
9
The exact origin of the symbol is unknown, though it is undisputed that it has been in use at least since the time of the reign of mages; even Hieronymous knows and uses this symbol. During the reign of the mages it was interpreted with quite a bit of symbolism: the cross symbolises the four directions: north, south, east, and west, where the empire stretched over a large area. The star symbolises the power of magic, on which the old empire was built, thus it is in the emblem's centre. The emblem's official colour is a dark red (`#D40000`), referencing the colour of blood. It is meant to recall the Years of Chaos (see the prestory document).

11
Since at least that time, the symbol was continually in use by the mages.

## Use
14
15
It is used in the flag of the mages, which is seen most notably around Oak Fortress. It is further wearn on a necklace by the members of the High Council, though the necklace variant is golden and not red, and it is used in the seal of the Paladin of the High Council. Due to its age, it can occasionally be found in places where mages used to settle in ancient times, where it might indicate something for the player to think about.
16
17
It is also typically used on all equipment mages typically use, though there it often has no specific colour and simply appears a little darkened.

## Variants

Yet to be created:

* Flag of the Mages, notably used all around Oak Fortress
24
* Signet used by the Paladin
25
* Logo of the High Council of the Mages

* Black and silver variant used by Hieronymous

## Actual construction

quintus was inspired for this symbol by the symbol used by the Knights Templar, around which enough myths have arisen to warrant being inspired for a mage logo. It was constructed entirely from scratch with Inkscape.
