| ## Appearance |
| |||
| It is a short, golden staff ending in a circle surmounted by two little snakes facing one another. Right below the circle are two small wings situated. The staff's lower end ends in a small sphere. That is, it's a combination from two depictions of Hermes' Caduceus: [this picture](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lekythos_of_Hermes.jpg) for the base form and [this picture](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Pompeii_-_Casa_dei_Vettii_-_Ixion.jpg) for the look of the snakes and the wings. |
| |||
| Typical modern depictions have the snakes winding around the staff's shaft, but that doesn't look authentic. It would not be possible to carry the staff properly. |

| ## Where to find |
| |||
| Yet to be determined. |
| |||
| ## Use |
| |||
| Its operation consumes magic. The staff has multiple uses: touching a sleeping creature with it will awaken it no matter what. This is useful for instance in periods where the protagonists need to hold on for a time longer than normally possible without sleep. By touching the other protagonist with the Herald's Staff (and consuming magic) it will restore him immediately. Conversely, touching a waken creature will send it to sleep (though that does not work with all monsters for practical reasons -- we can't have sleep animations for all the monsters and it would probably be problematic to allow this everywhere). Again, this can be used on the protagonists themselves, even by accident. |
| |||
| It's possible to use the herald's staff as a simple weapon as well. Simply hitting a monster with it will deal a little damage and not consume magic. |
| |||
| Other uses yet to be determined. |
| |||
| ## Miscellanea |
| |||
| The staff is modelled after [Hermes' Caduceus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caduceus). |
